The Smok Alien 220W kit is Smoktech’s latest member to its already growing line of high quality vaping products. After debuting the famous X Cube 2 in 2016, Smok has been releasing more innovative designs without compromising quality. And the Smok Alien 220 kit is no exception.
The kit comes with a top-quality mod that has a maximum output of 220 watts. This device is paired with the new Smok Baby Beast tank, the smaller sibling of the immensely popular TFV8 Cloud Beast. (Kit is readily available at www.nzecigstore.co.nz)
Wrapped on the usual Smok packaging, the box contains one Alien 220 mod, a TFV8 Baby tank (3 mL), a pre-installed V8 Baby-Q2 0.4 ohm coil, a V8 Baby-T8 0.15 ohm coil, a USB charging cable, a replacement glass tube, and the very helpful user manual. Most online shops sell this to as high as NZD $145, but you can get it for as low as NZD $119.99 at NZ Ecig Store. The kit requires two 18650 batteries. Available colors for the mod are Champagne Gold, Gun Metal, Silver, and Red Black.
For a reviewer like me, this device is no doubt one of the sleekest and best looking one to date. It measures 85 mm tall, 44 mm wide, and 28.4 mm thick, with rounded corners and well-positioned vent holes. Its body is made from zinc alloy case with a matte black finish and a colored strip that borders the clear and large OLED display. (The strip comes in several colors, by the way). The Alien 220W design is actually inspired from the IPV4 and the Siegelei 213, in case you are familiar.
This compact device is a dual 18650 battery unit. Instead of the basic firing button, the Alien 220 kit uses the firing bar, which has been a staple Smok design since it was started on the X Cube 2. It is also present on the recently released OSUB Plus and H-Priv. The firing panel actually needs some pressure to activate the device. Such design addresses common accidental firing issues, like instances when you were holding the device in your hand or keeping it squeezed in a tight pocket. Human as we are, we also tend to forget to lock our devices, so a non-easy click firing panel really helps, in my opinion.
Smok Alien’s huge OLED screen display is another reason to love this device. It displays an abundance of very useful information. In here, data like current wattage or temperature setting, the selected Smok vaping effect (soft, normal, or hard), battery life, real-time voltage, atomizer resistance, the type of mode in use, amperage, internal motherboard’s temperature, puff counter, and even a puff timer are displayed. Now, it may look overwhelming and so messy at first, but I swear, after you get used to it, you will surely find every bit of the information listed above very useful and handy. Just think of the time it will save you from going through the menu and looking for each feature one by one.
A micro-USB slot is also located just beneath the screen. This is used for firmware upgrades. Yes, upgrades only. As for charging the device, you may need to have an external battery charger for that. So, if you want to use the Alien 220, better start browsing for an external charger.
To go through the Alien 220W mod’s menu, just click the firing bar three times in succession. Once you reached the menu, you can browse through its main settings by pressing the firing bar once. And when you want to access any sub-menu, press down the firing bar for one second.
By the way, you will also find a classic 510-threaded connection on top of the Alien 220W mod. Its connection is deep enough to permit the TFV8 Baby Beast tank to screw all the way down. Its connection is so tight you can’t find even the tiniest gap in it and the vaporizer.
Now that you want to take this Smok Alien 220W kit home, make sure to include the rich and flavorful e-liquids from Caktus Juice. Experience a tasty mouth explosion from the seven delectable flavors it offers. For a very affordable price of NZD $7.99 for every 10-bottle, get a taste of Strawberry, Tangy Apple, Tangy Grape, Strawberry Cream, Watermelon, Berry Crunch, and Pineapple.
