Glossary of Terminology
• 510 Series- Smaller, older variety of e-cigarette, shaped more like a traditional, analog cigarette, which utilizes a replaceable cartomizer with e-liquid-soaked polyfill. Automatic operation of the atomizer does not require manual button control, because the atomizer activates when air is drawn through the cigarette. Manual versions also available.
• 510 Series Threading- Small, male threading designed to fit into 510 E-cigs, but capable of threading into most eGo/Joytech-styles batteries as well.
• ADV- See All Day Vape.
• All Day Vape- An e-liquid suitable for all day use in an e-cig.
• Atomizer Body- Hollow housing “tube” for e-cigarettes such as the eGo-C which holds the atomizer head to the battery contact points, and holds the soft-end gasket of the cartridge close enough to the head for the wick to penetrate the thin rubber shielding, allowing the liquid access to the atomizer via the wick.
• Atomizer Head- Replaceable atomizer unit for e-cigarette models like the eGo-C, which is held in place by the atomizer body in such a way that it makes contact with the battery and penetrates the soft-end gasket of the cartridge in order to allow the wick access to the e-liquid.
• Atomizer- The part of an e-cig usually consisting of a heatable metal coil and a material used to draw e-juice via capillarity into close proximity to the coil. The coil heats the liquid just enough to vaporize it for inhalation.
• Carto(s)- See Cartomizer.
• Cartomizer- A (usually) detachable segment of an e-cig, which contains absorbent polyfill used to soak up e-liquid for delivery into the atomizer for vaporization.
• Cartridge- A (usually) small housing unit for e-liquid, for models such as the eGo-C, which can be filled with an e-liquid, but does not include a built-in atomizer. The cartridge is held on the atomizer head by the atomizer body in such a way that the head penetrates the soft-end gasket of the cartridge, allowing the wich access to the e-juice.
• Clearomizer- The segment of an e-cig which consists of a fillable tank for temporary holding of e-juice ready for vaporization, and a wick used to draw the liquid toward the atomizer.
• DG- See Diethylene Glycol
• Diethylene Glycol- Substance found in trace amounts in E-cigarette E-Juices and cartridges that can be toxic to human beings in the right quantities. However, One would have to vape over 10,000 cartridges-worth of E-juice in a 24-hour period in order to reach toxic amounts.
• Drip Tips- Easily removable mouthpieces that allow easy, quick access to the heating element in all Dripper-style atomizers and many standard clearomizers.
• Dripper/Dripping- A clearomizer-looking attachment with an exposed atomizer, which is used by dropping a small number of drops directly onto the wick and/or heating coil. Capable of producing a massive amount of vapor while maintaining flavor. Also referred to as a Fogger.
• Dual Coil Atomizer- An atomizer, either dripper-style or enclosed in the housing of a clearomizer/cartomizer, that includes two metal heating elements coiled around two separate wicks.
• E-cig- Short name for an electronic cigarette.
• eGo E-Cigarettes- The proverbial “gold standard” of e-cigs, using high capacity batteries using either the atomizer head/body/cartridge e-liquid delivery system, or a refillable “tank” or clearomizer system. Almost all batteries and clear/cartomizers are eGo-compatible thanks to standardized threading.
• Fogger- See Dripper/Dripping
• KR-808- E-cigarette model designed to compete with the 501-series, allowing for manual control of the atomizer via a button.
• L88B- Variety of e-cigs utilizing a three-part system, composed of a battery, atomizer, and disposable cartridge. The size, shape, and vapor output of this type of e-cigarette is comparable to those of the 501-series, the KR-808, and similar models.
• Micro-vendor- A smaller manufacturer of e-juice, comparable to micro-brewed beer, usually offering only a handful of different, proprietary blends.
• Olfactory [Rating]- A category of e-juice rating that takes into account the odor/scent of the vapor, especially during the “French inhale” tasting method, which recognizes the nose as a necessary adjunct to the human sense of taste.
• Personal Vaporizer- Either an e-cig or dry-herb vaporizing unit
• PG- See Propylene Glycol
• Polyfill- An absorbent, cloth wadding- like material found inside cartomizers which is used to hold soaked-up e-juice for delivery into the atomizer for vaporization.
• Propylene Glycol- One possible base, generally used in combination with Vegetable Glycol, of which e-liquid is composed. Provides a harsher vapor with a strong throat hit. Also used as a base for a majority of flavorings.
• PV- See Personal Vaporizer.
• RY4 (Flavor)- A popular e-juice flavor that combines caramel, vanilla, and a strong tobacco flavor.
• Steep(ing)- Removing the cap and nozzle from an e-juice bottle, and allowing it to sit, exposed to the elements, for a period of time ranging from a few hours to a month or more. Strengthens the flavor(s) of the e-liquid.
• TH- See Throat Hit.
• Throat Hit- Term describing the feel of the vapor produced by an e-cig as it passes down your throat during inhalation.
• Vape (Vaping) – Verb describing the action of “smoking” an electronic cigarette or PV.
• Variable Voltage- An e-cigarette battery that allows for manual adjustment of the voltage used by the atomizer, which effects the amount of vapor created in the vaping process.
• Vegetable Glycol- One possible base, generally used in combination with Propylene Glycol, of which e-liquid is composed. Provides a smoother vapor with a minimal to non-existent throat hit. Incapable of being a flavoring base.
• VG- See Vegetable Glycol
• VV- See Variable Voltage
